After learning about the ‘Four Symbols” in Chinese folklore, I was inspired to create a series of paintings. These mythological beings are based on Chinese constellations: the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West and the Black Tortoise of the North. They also represent the seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. Though this, I intended to learn more about the nuances of my birth culture whilst improving my painting ability.
