Luck of the Draw
Luck of the Draw
Luck of the Draw is a semester-long class project created alongside four classmates. As the sole artist, I designed all of the visual assets for this project. I was also heavily involved with balancing and fine-tuning the various weapon modifications and biome/environmental generation.
Through our initial prototypes, we became interested in the idea of creating a survival game that evoked a sense of unfamiliarity for the player within each play-through. By generating a world that has randomized variables, the player must experiment and adapt to each instance of the game. As we continued to work on the project, the gameplay slowly shifted from survival towards action.
With a modular weapon upgrade system, the player has three slots that each distinctly modify the way that the weapon functions. We focused on creating interesting upgrades with unique synergies that rewarded players for continued experimentation.
Due to the time-constraints of the course, our project is merely at an early production stage. However, we feel that we have laid a strong foundation for further progress.
